Materia Magica (screenshots)
In development since 1994, it is one of the best text-based fantasy role-playing games, or what they call Interactive Entertainment Network's.

Runescape (screenshots)
A highly graphical game where you can choose your appearance. There are a lot of items, weapons, and armor. There are usually over 2000 people online.

Castle Marrach
A cooperative, social, fantasy game from Skotos. Text-dominant with graphics. Skotos offers games for free the first month, but thereafter cost $9.95.

Eternal City
Welcome to an ever-growing world where you help decide the future. Galactic Emperor Succession
Another great game from Skotos. This one's sci-fi. Skotos offers games for free the first month, but thereafter cost $9.95.

Realm of the Magi
Based upon a tangent of the Fifth Age Dragonlance novels by TSR, Inc, the game has features that include highly detailed interactive realms, dynamic guild system, player-owned shops, pubs, and inns, spellcasting non-player characters, damageable weapons & armors, and more.

The Prophet's Song
     A turn-based multiplayer role-playing game. It is set in a heroic-fantasy world, where you can play one of six races. You can fight other players, recruit and command followers, and more.

The Two Towers
     A text-based role-playing MUD based on the world of "The Lord of the Rings."

Virtopia (screenshots)
     Virtopia (or Virtual Petz) is a highly graphical RPG, where you play a creature that you take care of, train, use in battles against other players and horrific creatures, explore mysterious lands, go on quests, and more!

WoTmud IV
     Text-based. From the quotes of the critics, it sounds like one of the better MUD's.

Age of the Throne
     Text-based MUD-style game. Immerse yourself in the dramatic backdrop of 17th Century Paris, in the time of King Louis XIII, The Kings Musketeers and Cardinal Richelieu.

Ages of Despair
Medieval fantasy MUD (multi-user dungeon) played via telnet that has been online since March 1998. Their main world consists of approximately 3000 rooms plus many areas and domains. AoD takes place on a very large island named Loriah.

Barp
Barp is a graphical fantasy based role-playing game you can play in your web browser. Four races to choose from, a lot of NPCs and different weapons.

Dragon Court
You can get into fights, buy/sell equipment, and save your character. You can mail stuff to other heros, gain rank in the courts; seek fame, fortune, power and notoriety. By Fred's F(r)iends.

DragonStone
DragonStone is a medieval/fantasy based Mud, online since Febuary 1998. DragonStone offers 16 classes, 14 races, and multiclassing. The Immortals of DragonStone are very active and the game is always being updated and expanded.

Hesperia
     This medieval fantasy textual MUD consists of a completely unique world. You can choose from 10 races and 8 classes. The game is newbie friendly. The Hesperian Immortals are friendly towards newbies and offer assistance to players of all levels. Access via telnet or java.

To Boldly Go
     This is an open-ended space-opera, meaning there's just one game which has been running for 600 turns (3 per week) so far and is not expected to end. Various techniques keep it viable for new players while allowing long-term growth in power and options, so deathstars with years of experience rub shoulders with new explorers - usually without being able to blow them up. Another game on this site is called Time and Time Again. This game usually lasts about 3 weeks.
